Hey guys, its Powerflare! The First Strike DLC Debut Trailer was released today and it briefly covers the four new multiplayer maps.

I guess I’ll give my thoughts on the little I’ve seen of the maps. Kowloon seems well designed and seems like a fun map to play. I like Chinese-styled maps to begin with, plus it has a cool feature—the zip-line. Its a cool interactive feature for Multiplayer but I won’t use it often—but I’ll kill people using it. 🙂 Discovery seems cool. I can see how there will often be a big fight for the middle of the map. I’m gonna be back behind the huge firefight picking people off at a distance with whatever Assault Rifle I will be using, likely. For Berlin Wall, I’m gonna use its high points to my advantage. I’m not a sniper, but I will try to pick people off below me and at a distance from up high instead of running full-speed through the streets with the AK-74u like most people will do (just saying its a common gun). The last map will likely be my favorite—Stadium. I like the design and I like the close quarters combat aspect but I like how its not too close like Nuketown.

Aside from Ascension which we haven’t gotten a look at yet, it looks like a great map pack.

Update (straight from the Call of Duty wikia):

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is the upcoming sequel to Infinity Ward‘s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. It was confirmed to be in pre-production on April 9th, 2010 by Activision. Activision has slated it for a November 2011 release date. Sledgehammer Games, originally planning to work on the cancelled action/adventure Call of Duty, will be working with Infinity Ward on the single-player aspect of the game while Raven Software will be working on the multiplayer. Sledgehammer is aiming for a bug-free CoD and ratings above 95%.

Hey guys, its Powerflare. Heh, this is my first post in awhile I guess. Since I haven’t posted since before Black Ops was released, I’d like to start out by asking how is everyone enjoying Black Ops so far? I know this is going back a bit, but what are everyone’s first impressions about the game? And now that its been out for about three months, what are everyone’s second and third impressions? I know the First Strike DLC is coming out real soon and will respark interest for those who have become disinterested in Black Ops.

I’d like to thank Treyarch for making this awesome game for us to enjoy, and comment on some of my favorite parts about the game. But first, what do you guys like the most? What do you like the least? I really like the customization. At first, I was just focused on the main features of the Multiplayer aspect of Black Ops, but I am really starting to appreciate the level of customization Treyarch has given us with the Create a Class 2.0. I think the game demonstrates amazing perk balance. In Modern Warfare 2, Scavenger, Stopping Power, and Ninja were the staple perks to use in almost any game type, however, in Black Ops, I’m having a hard time finding that “best perk loadout.” I also think the guns have better balance (not perfect, I assure you) than in previous titles (namely Modern Warfare 2). For those complaining about the 74u, don’t! It is nowhere near as effective as the UMP45 or MP40—plus, there’s no Stopping Power. I find Second Chance to be the most annoying thing in the game. Knifing is annoying too. It seems that the knifing has gotten worse as time has progressed. I remember people trying to lunge knife on the first day and failing; now I see it all the time. Oh well, hopefully they’ll patch it.

Are you guys excited for the new DLC coming out soon? I’m sure it’ll be awesome since Treyarch has done such a good job so far and will definitely get me more interested in the game. But, even towards an amazing game like Black Ops, apathy is inevitable. People will grow bored with Black Ops, with later map packs not seeming as charming as the first ones. After about 6 months, people are ready for a new game. After an entire year, the wait is over, a new game is released, and the cycle continues. But how long will we wait this year for the next Call of Duty?

First of all, I’m only stating what I’ve heard—most of which are rumors. Right now, its hard to differentiate between fact and BS. There are different opinions on different statements by Activision and some people are wondering if some of the older statements are outdated. However, it is a fact that on April 9, 2010, Activision confirmed the pre-production of Modern Warfare 3 in the counter-suit against Infinity Ward (if you don’t know what I’m talking about, read on). It said:

Among other things, they delayed pre-production of Modern Warfare 3 and attempted to improperly leverage their rights under the MOU to obtain further advantages for themselves and concessions from Activision. … As a direct and proximate result of this breach of the covenant of good faith and fair dealing, Activision has been forced to commit additional resources to Modern Warfare 3, institute litigation to seek a declaration of rights, and incur costs and attorneys’ fees, and will incur additional expenses in connection with securing the benefits of the MOU.

For the full story, click here. I recommend clicking that as it may help give you the full picture. What does all this mean? Well, most importantly, it means Modern Warfare 3 is in pre-production stages—or at least was. The rest I cannot confirm as true, only rumor. Apparently, Sledgehammer is also making a Call of Duty game—an Action/Adventure from what I’ve been told. That should be interesting. I doubt it will be the CoD game of the year, though. I’ve also been told that MW3 is supposed to be delayed and should be released 1-3 month after the usual November date. This is why I asked earlier “how long will we wait this year for the next Call of Duty?” I’ve also been told that Modern Warfare 3 takes place prior to the Modern Warfare 1 storyline and revolves around Ghost. In essence, its a prequel. Interesting idea, actually.

MW3 Box Art (made by Powerflare)

Now for some opinions of my own, and then I’d like to open it up for discussion in the comment section. I really feel that, although this sounds so childish, that Infinity Ward and Activision should put aside their differences, come together, and make this game amazing. [Note: That can’t actually happen; 2/3 of the old Infinity Ward (before the lawsuit) is now at Respawn Entertainment and this includes many key developers] They should utilize all of the strengths about Modern Warfare 2 and what made it fun (when you weren’t getting noob tubed) and take some lessons from Black Ops, too. They really could make this game awesome. I do feel, though I love the Custom Class 2.0, that they should return and just expand about the Custom Class of MW2 and the old unlock system. I liked how I had to work to get camos for my guns, and Extended Mags (that was a bit too hard in my opinion) was an accomplishment. Just a thought….

Now what do you guys want in Modern Warfare 3? Who do you think should make it? What guns do you want to see? Perks? Killstreaks? What do you think about this whole legal conflict? Don’t forget to answer the other questions I’ve asked throughout the post. Thanks for reading!

Game Night! (11/12/10)

Posted: October 13, 2010 by Powerflare in Uncategorized

Hey guys, its Powerflare! I have some gaming news, kinda unrelated to ENS, but you’ll see why I want to tell you this. As you all probably know, Black Ops is coming out November 9th. Also, ENS members have enjoyed playing MW2 and BC2 (mostly MW2, however). So in honor of gaming and Black Ops especially, ZDomination and I will be hosting a Game Night! Its an 8 hour event, but you guys don’t have to stay the whole time and can get off and on. You are all invited; so bring your friends, too! The details are as follows:

Whole Party: Friday, November 12, 2010, 6:00 PM EST – 2:00 AM EST on Saturday, the 13th.

  • 6pm – 9pm: Call of Duty: Black Ops – Multiplayer
  • 9pm – 10pm: Call of Duty: Black Ops – Co-op Campaign
  • 10pm – 12am: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 – Multiplayer
  • 12am – 1am: Battlefield: Bad Company 2 – Multiplayer
  • 1am – 2am: Call of Duty: Black Ops – Nazi Zombies

Needless to say, this party is on Playstation 3. Also needless to say, its not at someone’s house—the Game Night is online. If you weren’t invited by someone who knows us (ENS members) and want to come, comment here with your PSN ID and let us know you want to come.

If either me or ZDomination lags out or loses connection, you are obligated to, as soon as the match ends, leave so we can rejoin the group. I say this because you can’t have the party without the hosts and even though I have an ethernet cable, its a 100ft one so connection isn’t as strong as you’d think and our whole Internet crap is like 5 y.o. so I have some issues with it when I’m playing online. Anyways, I hope you’ll be attending. Try to let me know what parts of the party you will be attending.

My Thoughts on Black Ops

Posted: June 10, 2010 by Powerflare in Uncategorized

Well, as you all know, a new Call of Duty game is being released in the fall—Call of Duty: Black Ops, developed by Treyarch this time around. I think most people would be disappointed with this, seeing the negativity people had towards World at War, but I think people are satisfied because, well for starters, people aren’t very happy with Infinity Ward because of *cough* Modern Warfare 2 *cough* and also because Treyarch has decided to take ideas from the community. I don’t think the nuke will be returning—that’s good—and neither will Commando—THANK YOU TREYARCH! I heard something about the killstreaks too, but I’m also not sure about this: the kills that the killstreaks get you will not advance you to higher killstreaks. For example, if you got three kills off of your 5 killstreak reward, it wouldn’t get you to an 8 killstreak. That sounds really good in my mind, because that way it will reduce a lot of camping!

My thoughts about what I’ve seen so far… well its hard to know at this point. Since its in the ’60s, its in between the modern warfare we have today and WWII-warfare. A variety of weapons seem to be utilized. Here’s something interesting! Look at this picture as a thumbnail (tiny) before clicking to enlarge!!! What do you see? A sniper rifle, right? Now enlarge it…

You’ll see its actually a scoped crossbow. I don’t know, you might’ve seen it before enlarging, or maybe you already knew—I just thought it was interesting that it looks like a sniper rifle. On the other hand, there are explosives and rocket launchers like the one in the following picture.

From what I’ve heard about this game so far, it’s gonna fix the garbage Modern Warfare 2 became/is becoming and also has a wide variety of weapons and probably playing tactics that will make this game interesting. The other being, of course, being in between older warfare (WWII and before) and modern warfare. I think this game will be a lot, and I mean a lot better than MW2. Well, anything could at this point—even Blue Toad Murder Files!

PS: Don’t bash my opinions about Black Ops and MW2. If you have a different opinion—great! I will probably have a different opinion once more information is released.

SCAR History is up!

Posted: May 25, 2010 by Powerflare in Uncategorized

Please Read: Sorry guys, I abandoned the whole video thing. I made the video, and even put it on YouTube, but… ya know, I just wasn’t feeling it… so I removed it. Sorry for those who were looking forward to it.

I wish I could’ve written more about the actually background and use of this gun, but I didn’t find too much about that. Oh well! Anyways, the SCAR is next. I was actually going to do that last out of all the Assault Rifles (keep something good for last!) but I just had to do this one next. I figured I’ll tell you guys why, since I do in all of my posts.

In Modern Warfare 2, I absolutely love the SCAR-H. It is in my top 3 favorite guns in the game (ACR, TAR-21, and the SCAR-H). Extended Mags is perfect for the SCAR, and it makes it a total beast. However, the SCAR holds another special place in my heart! I recently purchased Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and the second gun you unlock for the Engineer Kit is the SCAR-L, which tears up as well! I just unlocked the Red Dot sight for that kit, and, well—you get the point—it tears up. Because I saw both sides to the SCAR more clearly, I decided to do this gun history now.
